Bloomington, Ind. — Iowa scored its most points in four seasons, shooting 55 percent from the field in a 93-79 women’s basketball win at Indiana on Sunday.
Senior Kachine Alexander recorded her 33rd career double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa (22-7, 10-6), which secured a No. 4 seed and a first-round bye for this week’s Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis. Sophomore Jaime Printy added 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
“I think we’re playing good basketball right now,” Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. “We earned the first-round bye so that’s exciting for our players.”
The Hawkeyes led 53-30 with 13:26 remaining when they responded with a 14-2 spurt over the next five minutes to break the game open. Iowa made 18-of-30 field-goal attempts in the second half, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
“We had a great offensive night,” Bluder said. “We shot the ball extremely well. I think our team really clicked and that’s exactly how you want your team feeling about their offense going into the Big Ten Tournament.”
Printy was coming off a career-high 32-point game Thursday against Illinois. She made all 10 of her free-throw attempts Sunday.
“If I remember right, she had a pretty good game here last year as well, so maybe she likes playing here in Bloomington,” Bluder said. “She’s gotten so much more confident as the year has gone on.”
Iowa last scored 93 or more points Feb. 25, 2007, in a 103-93 win over Wisconsin.
The Hawkeyes will play Ohio State in the second round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
