The Iowa baseball team lost to South Dakota State 7-4 in 14 innings Tuesday at Duane Banks Field.
“I thought we tried to do a little bit too much in certain situations,” Iowa coach Jack Dahm said. “We did some good things, but unfortunately, we did not get it done from an offensive standpoint. We need to take better advantage of our opportunities. We have to find a way to bounce back and get a win tomorrow.”
The Jackrabbits scored two runs in the top of the ninth to lead 4-3, but the Hawkeyes tied the score with a run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Trevor Willis.
South Dakota State’s Eric Cain hit a bases-loaded double in the top of the 14th inning for the win off Jeff Pacha, who had pitched a career-high four innings of relief.
Andrew Ewing hit 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Iowa, Tyson Blaser hit 2-for-7 with a run, Willis finished 2-for-5 with two doubles, and Chett Zeise hit 1-for-3 with an RBI.
