Iowa City, Ia. – Ed Podolak says hi to everyone.
The Iowa radio broadcaster who broke two legs, etc., after getting struck by a car in Scottsdale, Ariz., two months ago wants everyone to know he’s getting along all right.
He attended Saturday’s Spring Whatever, and liked what he saw.
Podolak says he’s doing his rehab at U of Iowa Hospitals, and that he was able to wheel over to football practice a few times.
And he adds this parting shot, regarding his Scottsdale hospital visits by Jim Zabel:
“Tell em we had wheelchair races,” Podolak cracked. “And I won every time.”
Leftovers from Saturday’s workout:
Wideout Marvin McNutt said he nearly left for the NFL after last season.
“It was a decision that came down to the wire,” McNutt said. “But in the end, it was definitely something that I wanted to come back for — my team, for the coaches, for the atmosphere and for the Hawkeye family.”
And for his degree.
He’s on schedule to graduate in December.
This nugget from coach Kirk Ferentz regarding defensive back Willie Lowe, who wasn’t on the depth chart even before coming down with Rhabdo.
“We traded voicemails at the end of the week,” Ferentz said. “That’s about all I know about that one.”
Lowe has been granted a release from his scholarship. He’s looking for more playing time elsewhere, but if he can’t find it, then he might be back on the team.
