Want to spend some of your Easter weekend in Des Moines with DJK? Here’s the juice:
Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, the Hawkeyes’ all-time leader in receptions (173) and receiving yards (2,616), is slated to attend an autograph signing in West Des Moines on Saturday.
Johnson-Koulianos — or “DJK,” as he’s known to thousands of Iowa fans — is signing from noon until 4 p.m. at the West Des Moines Sheraton. He’ll be in the Dallas Room, near the hotel’s North Entrance, says Chris Douglas, the Urbandale resident who’s organizing the event.
It’s believed to be the first public appearance in Des Moines by the former Hawkeye receiver since his arrest on drug charges on December 7. Despite starting four years at Iowa, DJK was effectively cut off from the Hawkeye football program by coach Kirk Ferentz after the arrest and did not play in the 2010 Insight Bowl.
In addition to signing autographs, Douglas says they’ll also be conducting a raffle on-site. Items up for bidding include DJK’s game-worn 2009 Outback Bowl jersey, an authentic Shonn Greene jersey, a helmet signed by Adrian Clayborn, and donations from former Hawkeyes such as Rafael Eubanks and Adam Haluska. Douglas says that a majority of the money earned in the raffle will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Cash, check and credit card will be accepted. For more details, and payment options, contact Chris at firstname.lastname@example.org.
