Iowa running back Marcus Coker is on the pre-season watch list for the Maxwell Award, which goes annually to college football’s top player.

Coker rushed for 622 yards as a true freshman last season despite making just four starts.

This includes 219 yards on 33 carries in the Hawkeyes’ victory against Missouri in the Insight Bowl.

Iowa State linebacker Jake Knott and Iowa cornerback Shaun Prater are on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which goes to college football’s top defensive player.

Knott, a junior, averaged 10.8 tackles last season, second in the Big 12 Conference and 12th nationally. He also had four interceptions.

Prater, a senior, intercepted four passes last season.
