Chicago, Ill. — Leftovers from the Big Ten Conference’s annual media days:
**Wisconsin football coach Bret Bielema is getting hitched in March.
**Joe Paterno says he didn’t even know he had a year remaining on his contract. “Is this the last year of my contract?” wondered Paterno, 84. “I don’t even know I’ve got a contract. I don’t pay attention to that.”
**Speaking of JoPa, he’s feeling fine heading into his 46th season as the Nits’ head coach. “I feel a lot better than I did a year ago. I feel good,” Paterno said. “I’m back doing a lot of things I used to do, walking a lot more. I’ve been watching what I eat. I feel good. I enjoyed this spring. I have a lot more enthusiasm.”
**Just saying: There are now 14 trophy games in the Big Ten.
** Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa still wonders how he ruptured his Achilles on his game-winning touchdown pass last season against Iowa. “I looked around to see if anybody hit me, and nobody was around. I was confused,” Persa said Friday. “I went to walk to the end zone, and I couldn’t feel my foot. I’m like “all right, what’s wrong with my foot?”Nobody touched me.”
**Iowa media day is Aug. 5.
