The Prime Time League summer basketball event returns to North Liberty for the 26th season next month.
League commissioner Randy Larson said Monday in a press release that a player draft will be held June 13, with games starting June 19. The four teams will play seven regular-season games, followed by playoffs.
The Game Time League, for women, will also return to North Liberty for a 12th season. There will be six teams playing eight regular-season games, followed by the playoffs. A player draft will be held June 14, with games starting June 20.
Returning Iowa men’s players will be featured in the PTL again, and incoming recruits Adam Woodbury, Mike Gesell, Anthony Clemmons, Patrick Ingram and Kyle Meyer are also expected to play.
Northern Iowa men’s players will not compete this year. Larson said it was because of new NCAA legislation that allows college coaches more time with their players over the summer.
“While we’ll certainly miss seeing the UNI guys, because they always play hard and the right way, we’ll have even more competitive teams this way,” Larson said. “Coach Ben Jacobson said they were very disappointed to not be able to do it, and they hope in future years to return, but this year they just couldn’t afford the 12 hours or so a week away from campus to do it.”
Northern Iowa women’s players will join Iowa’s players in the GTL. Both returnees and incoming recruits are expected to play.
Games will again be played at the North Liberty Recreation Center. The PTL will play on June 19; June 24; July 1; July 8; July 15; July 22; and July 24. Games will be played at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sundays and 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
The GTL will play on June 20; June 27; July 2; July 11; July 16; July 18; July 23; and July 25. Both leagues are sanctioned by the NCAA. Tryouts will be held for both leagues on June 10.
