Iowa City, Ia. – Notes from Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery’s news conference Wednesday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena (here's the transcript):
Starting lineup – Iowa plays Quincy (here are the game notes) in a 1 p.m. exhibition game Sunday. McCaffery hinted that his starting lineup would included two freshmen – point guard Mike Gesell and center Adam Woodbury; a sophomore – power forward Aaron White; a senior, small forward Eric May; and a junior, second guard Devyn Marble.
“I would say there’s a good chance the team I start would be the team I start for awhile,” McCaffery said.
Rotation/redshirts – McCaffery said his rotation is at 10 players heading into the exhibition game, possibly 11.
Here would be the Top 10 – the five starters listed above plus Josh Oglesby, Melsahn Basabe, Zach McCabe, Gabe Olaseni and Anthony Clemmons.
McCaffery said freshman Patrick Ingram is the 11th man in a 10-man rotation. That was a sign that Ingram could redshirt along with freshman frontliner Kyle Meyer. Ingram wasn’t in Iowa City over the summer. He was back in Indianapolis, Ind., getting his academic work in order. McCaffery said Ingram is still behind.
“He’s not in the top 10 right now,” McCaffery said. “He's going to be good, though. It's just taking him a little longer. He's trying. He's really working at it.
