Des Moines Lincoln athletic director Phil Chia confirmed Tuesday that senior Trevon Young is no longer on the school’s boys’ basketball team.

“He’s no longer part of the team,” Chia said, providing no other details and citing student confidentiality.

Young was leading the Rails with 15.3 points and 12.2 rebounds per game.

An Iowa football recruit, Young was among six individuals arrested by Des Moines Police on July 25 for third-degree burglary and interference with official acts.

Lincoln boys’ basketball coach Jay Bendixen could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

No Iowa athletic department official could be reached early Wednesday, but when asked last summer about athletes who have accepted scholarship offers but had not yet signed national letters of intent, Hawkeye athletic director Gary Barta said: “Until someone signs with us, they’re not officially part of the program.”

The first day football recruits can sign national letters of intent is Feb. 6.
