SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Iowa is making a case for earning a spot in the Top 25 rankings.
The Hawkeyes upended their third ranked opponent this season, cruising past No. 20 Texas 86-63 in the opening game of the San Diego Surf ‘N’ Slam Classic on Friday.
Samantha Logic set the Iowa record for assists in a game with 14 while posting a double-double with 15 rebounds.
Sophomore reserve guard Melissa Dixon paced three Hawkeyes with 20 or more points. Dixon finished with a career-high 23, making 5-of-10 3-pointers.
Senior Jaime Printy scored 21 points and fellow senior Morgan Johnson added 20 for Iowa.
Iowa (10-3) pulled away for good after the second official timeout. Leading 15-11, the Hawkeyes scored 12 of the next 14 points to take a 27-13 lead. Iowa led 41-21 at halftime.
Nneka Enemkpali scored 13 points and added 12 rebounds for Texas (7-3), which came in allowing only 55.3 points per game.
Iowa also defeated No. 12 West Virginia 79-70 on Nov. 25 and Iowa State 50-42 on Dec. 6.
Iowa will play San Diego on Sunday.
