Former Iowa RB Greg Garmon enrolls at California junior-college

[ 0 ] January 26, 2013 |

Former Iowa running back Greg Garmon has transferred to the same junior college in northern California that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodger used to attend.

Garmon has enrolled at perennial power Butte College in Oroville, Calif., according to Hawkeye Insider.com.

“He is on campus and started school this past week,” Butte coach Jeff Jordan told Hawkeye Insider.com in a text message.

Garmon, a native of Erie, Pa., left the Iowa program in December after rushing for 122 yards on 38 carries as a true freshman this past season. He also caught eight passes for 57 yards and averaged 23.9 yards on five kick returns.

Garmon was one of the most decorated players in Iowa’s 2012 recruiting class and picked the Hawkeyes over a long list of scholarship offers from BCS schools.

He now joins a program that is considered arguably the top junior-college football program in northern California. Butte finished 10-1 this past season.

Rodgers played at Butte College for one season in 2002, leading his team to a 10-1 record. He then played for two seasons at the University of California before becoming an all-Pro quarterback for the Packers.
