Dismal shooting sends Hawkeye women to defeat

[ 0 ] February 7, 2013 |

MINNEAPOLIS — The Iowa women shot 29 percent from the field and dropped their third straight game Thursday, losing 72-60 at Minnesota.

Gophers sophomore Rachel Banham finished with 34 points and Minnesota outscored Iowa 32-18 in the paint.

The Hawkeyes made just 18 of their 63 shots and fell to 16-8 and 5-5 in the Big Ten Conference.

Minnesota held a 46-33 advantage with 15:49 remaining when the Hawkeyes started a comeback. Senior Jaime Printy swished a 3-pointer with 5:18 left to pull the Hawkeyes within 60-57. But Iowa could not get closer than three points.

“We fought hard, we just came up short,” said Printy, who made five 3-pointers and led Iowa with 21 points. “The season’s not over, but we have to start doing something now. We have three great opportunities next week so we have to come out strong.”
