West Lafayette, Ind. — Sophomore Samantha Logic scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting to help Iowa snap a five-game losing streak with a 72-52 victory over No. 18 Purdue Sunday in Big Ten Conference women’s basketball.
The victory marks the first time the Hawkeyes have won at Mackey Arena since Feb. 6, 1998. Purdue had won 12 straight home games in the series.
Iowa is now 7-1 against ranked teams this season and 2-0 against ranked opponents on the road (wins at Michigan and Purdue). The Hawkeyes (17-10, 6-7 Big Ten) lost only to No. 8 Penn State 81-69 last Thursday.
Senior Morgan Johnson set an Iowa school record by collecting her 122nd career start. The previous record for starts was held by current Drake women’s coach Jennie (Lillis) Baranczyk with 121 starts.
Logic finished one rebound shy of a double-double while Theairra Taylor recorded her second double-double of the season, and career, scoring 15 points and tying a career-high with 11 rebounds.
The Hawkeyes swept Purdue this season, winning the earlier meeting 62-46 in Iowa City.
Sam Ostarello led Purdue with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Boilermakers (19-6, 8-4) lost for the second time at home in 11 games.
