EVANSTON, Ill. — The Iowa women’s basketball team beat Northwestern 62-45 Sunday in its regular season finale, and will face the Wildcats again Thursday at the Big Ten Tournament.
The Hawkeyes pulled away with a 12-2 run at the end of the first half to lead 31-22 at the break, then never led by fewer than eight points the rest of the way.
Melissa Dixon led the Hawkeyes (19-11, 8-8 Big Ten) with 21 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-12 3-pointers.
Northwestern (13-16, 5-11 Big Ten) shot just 29.1 percent (16-of-55) and just 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from 3-point range.
Morgan Johnson finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who outscored the Wildcats 26-14 in the paint.
Iowa will be the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which starts Thursday in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The Hawkeyes will face No. 10 seed Northwestern at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sears Centre Arena.
