IOWA CITY – If you haven’t bought tickets to tonight’s first-round NIT men’s basketball game between Ioiwa and Indiana State, forget it. The university announced this morning that the game is sold out in 15,400-seat Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
This will be Iowa’s fifth sellout of the season, joining Big Ten games against Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska. The Hawkeyes averaged 13,428 fans at home this season, the highest draw since 2001-02.
Tonight’s game will be the largest on-campus NIT crowd since 2009, when 16,984 saw Kentucky at Creighton. Iowa’s crowd of 13,190 for last season’s Iowa-Dayton first-round NIT game was the largest of any on-campus game in 2012.
The Iowa-Indiana State game will tip off at 6 p.m. and be televised on ESPN2.
