1,000 extra tickets available for Hawkeye football practice

[ 0 ] April 11, 2013 |

More than three dozen people were lined up outside Herky’s Locker Room at Valley West Mall this afternoon, in hopes of getting free tickets to Iowa’s football practice Sunday at West Des Moines’ Valley Stadium.

One of those who visited the mall was Valley High School athletic director Brad Rose.

“People are excited about it,” Rose said. “We don’t have any pro football teams in Iowa, so Iowa State, UNI and Iowa are kind of our teams.”

A total of 14,000 tickets were originally distributed through Hy-Vee, but were quickly gobbled up by fans.

Another 1,000 were made available at Herky’s Locker Room.

Officials are not sure how many people will attend Sunday’s 1:30 p.m. practice, pending the weather and other variables.

Rose compares the buildup to the annual Valley-Dowling high school football game.

“A lot of it is unknown,” Rose said of the expected attendance. “But if you don’t have a ticket to get in, we can’t let you in.”
