Greg Morris confirmed on Sunday afternoon that his son, James, was fine.
“He is by no means incapacitated,” Greg Morris said. “He’s fine. Come Aug. 31, he’ll be there with everybody else.”
Rumors around Solon’s Beef Days made its way to the Internet that James Morris had surgery for a sudden medical problem. Greg said he’d let Coach Kirk Ferentz decide when to confirm what happened.
Greg Morris did think James would travel to Chicago as planned for Big Ten Football Media Days this week.
Morris, a three-year starter at linebacker, ranks 16th in career tackles (293) at Iowa. He ranked third in the Big Ten and 31st nationally last year with 9.4 tackles per game.
The Solon native is on the watch list for the Bednarik, the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Nagurski Award, and the College Football Performance Awards Linebbacker Trophy watch list.
Iowa football opens the season on Aug. 31 against Northern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium.
