A potentially tricky schedule awaits Northwestern’s football team, but coach Pat Fitzgerald doesn’t seem to mind.
The Wildcats, who finished 10-3 last year and won a bowl game for the first time since the 1948 season, open Aug. 31 at California.
Then, they host Syracuse and Western Michigan.
All three of those programs have new coaches, which could make preparation more difficult.
“There’s no question were not afraid to play anyone,” Fitzgerald said during Big Ten media day in Chicago. “Any time there are coaching changes there are challenges on our staff.”
He went on to say Northwestern sometimes prepares in an abstract way.
“Maybe even looking at NFL tape, if that’s where the coordinator came from,” Fitzgerald said. “I think our blueprint for that speaks for itself.”
The Wildcats won all four non-conference games last season, including a thrilling 42-41 win at Syracuse.
