Tyler Ulis, the 5-foot-9 point guard from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Ill., is expected to announce his college choice Friday night. Ulis has narrowed down his choices to Iowa, Michigan State and Kentucky.
The Chicago Sun-Times’ High School Cube reported today that Ulis would disclose his intentions at approximately 7:20 p.m. Friday, before Marian Catholic’s football game with Carmel. The Sun-Times’ High School Cube website (www.highschoolcubenews.com) will live stream the announcement.
James Ulis, Tyler’s father, told Hawkeye Insider.com Wednesday that Iowa coach Fran McCaffery made a final home visit on Tuesday. The Hawkeyes are considered a longshot, but McCaffery's determined recruiting efforts has won Iowa some national attention if nothing else.
Ulis – ranked the 29th best prospect in the nation by Scout, 33rd by Rivals and 38th by ESPN, made campus visits to Iowa, Michigan State and Kentucky over the last two weeks.
He was in Iowa City the weekend of August 31-Sept. 1, then in East Lansing,Mich., the following weekend, before heading to Lexington, Ky., Sunday and Monday.
In addition to his three finalists, Ulis was offered scholarships by Southern California, Colorado State, DePaul, Florida, Florida State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oregon State, Purdue, Illinois-Chicago and Vanderbilt.
