IOWA CITY, Ia. — The way cornerback B.J. Lowery explains it, his leaping, one-handed interception was a moment of redemption.
It was a signature play in Iowa’s 27-21 win over Iowa State, and it ended up making the national highlight shows Saturday night.
“I didn’t see myself on ESPN,” Lowery said. “I saw it a bunch on Instagram, though. So that was pretty nice.”
It was Lowery, however, who mentioned he was beaten moments earlier, so it was not a flawless performance.
“It seemed like the guys around me were more happy than I was,” Lowery said of his pick.
Lowery interrupted Iowa State’s comeback bid, helping the Hawkeyes salt away a victory.
What were his thoughts as he reached for the ball?
“I figured if I missed, ‘Oh, (expletive),’” Lowery recalled. “It would have been a tough one.”
