Pat Harty: A talk with Mr. Optimist and Mr. Pessimist

[ 0 ] September 28, 2013 |

Mr. Optimist and Mr. Pessimist talk to columnist Pat Harty about what they thought after Saturday’s victory over Minnesota.

Mr. Optimist: A 16-point victory over Minnesota on the road should serve notice that the Iowa football team is on the rise.

Mr. Pessimist: Iowa defeated the Gophers by 18 points at home last season and look what that led to.

Mr. Optimist: Iowa has won four games in a row for the first time since 2009.

Mr. Pessimist: Shouldn’t that be my line?

Mr. Optimist: Mark Weisman just keeps getting better and better, and you have to keep feeding him the rock because at 236-pounds, he wears on a defense.

Mr. Pessimist: That’s fine. But then why take the redshirt off true freshman running back LeShun Daniels if he’s only going to play in mop-up duty?

Mr. Optimist: Iowa sophomore quarterback Jake Rudock continues to show poise in the pocket, a nice touch and the ability to make plays with his feet.

Mr. Pessimist: He also continues to throw interceptions, his fourth coming Saturday in the red zone.

Mr. Optimist: I like Iowa’s chances against Michigan State on Saturday because the Spartans are dreadful on offense.

Mr. Pessimist: You’d like Iowa’s chances against the New England Patriots. And don’t forget Michigan State has the best defense in the Big Ten by a wide margin.
