Iowa linebacker James Morris was named Big Ten Conference defensive player of the week today after his efforts in Saturday’s 23-7 win at Minnesota.
Morris, a senior from Solon, had a sack, an interception and eight tackles as Iowa improved to 4-1 on the season. Morris was part of a stout Iowa defense that limited the Gophers to 30 yards rushing in 27 attempts, more than 250 less than their average entering the game.
Morris is the second straight Iowa defender to win the award. Defensive back B.J. Lowery got the award after returning two interceptions for touchdowns against Western Michigan on Sept. 21.
