IOWA CITY, Ia. – There is no quarterback controversy on the Iowa football team.

But that doesn’t mean offensive coordinator Greg Davis wouldn’t like to see C.J. Beathard get a few more snaps.

Jake Rudock beat out Beathard and Cody Sokol for the starting job during the offseason.

“Extremely pleased with both of those guys,” Davis said of Beathard and Sokol. “I’ve said it, and I told (Beathard) Sunday; we’d like for him to play more.

“He’s got an extremely quick arm. I think he also has the ability to make some plays with his feet.”

Beathard made his Hawkeyes debut against Western Michigan, completing 1-of-3 passes for 54 yards.

Sokol has yet to play.

“Both of those guys have taken to their role extremely well,” Davis said. “Not that they’re satisfied. But they continue to work hard and stay involved with game plans.”
