Mike Vrabel was known as a versatile tough guy when he won three Super Bowls playing linebacker for the New England Patriots.
In his third season coaching at Ohio State, his alma mater, that hasn’t seemed to change.
At a press conference on Monday, the former all-American defensive end was asked about his defensive line’s performance against Iowa’s run game on Saturday.
Cutting in on the question, Vrabel said:
“Call it what it was…they beat the s*** out of us, I agree.”
The Hawkeyes finished with 130 yards rushing on 27 carries, gaining nine first downs on the ground in a 34-24 loss in Columbus.
In his second season coaching the defensive line, Vrabel went on to discuss his unit’s effort against Iowa’s front.
“There was some yardage that was pushed and washed. Contact at two yards and they’d push the line, throw the line over the pile, block the linebackers. Just soft.”
The fourth-ranked Buckeyes host Penn State on Saturday.
