Bettendorf state champion Logan Ryan is following in the steps of his older brother.
Three-time Kansas high school champ Tagen Lambotte is following his dream.
Their paths are leading to the same place: the Iowa wrestling program.
The Hawkeyes added to their recruiting haul Monday night when Ryan became the fifth wrestler to commit to Iowa’s 2014 class. The younger brother of Hawkeye freshman Connor Ryan picked Iowa over Iowa State and Minnesota.
“I did struggle (with the decision), to be honest with you,” said Logan Ryan, a three-time state medalist who won the 3-A title last season at 132 pounds. “(My brother) was a big factor. I get along with my brother very well. … Being in college is a huge step in life and you don’t have your parents there with you the whole time, but having a big brother there is nice.”
Lambotte, a native of Rossville, Kan., projects as a 149-pounder in college. He said he considered Northern Iowa, Missouri, Bucknell and Lehigh before selecting the Hawkeyes last week.
“It’s been my dream (to wrestle at Iowa), my goal since I started wrestling as a little kid,” he said. “The atmosphere at Iowa and the coaching staff and the style fits me. I like the way they wrestle, the way they do everything, the way they live life, the lifestyle.”
