Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said Wednesday it’s doubtful that junior guard Josh Oglesby will make his season debut Friday at Iowa State.
Oglesby broke a bone in his right foot in practice Nov. 6 and had surgery to insert a pin two days later. Oglesby said the thought of sitting out this season as a redshirt crossed his mind shortly after getting injured.
“Coach really hasn’t said too much about it,” Oglesby said. “And the foot is feeling good.”
Oglesby was most concerned about how his foot would handle side-to-side movements. But after a strenuous workout with assistant coach Kirk Speraw on Tuesday, he feels better about dealing with that.
Oglesby originally intended to return to practice Wednesday, but his foot was tender from the workout so he sat out. He hopes to make his debut against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 22.
