Arrest warrants have been issued for a man Iowa State University police believe robbed the Iowa football locker room during a game against the Cyclones on Sept. 14 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
Police said they believe the man may have fled the country.
Rob Bowers, associate director of Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety, Monday said that warrants for second-degree theft and second-degree burglary were issued Dec. 12 for Nicholas Vincent Beary, 23, whose last known residence was in West Des Moines.
“What’s taken so long is that investigators uncovered some information from witnesses that (Beary) may have left the country,” Bowers said.
Nine individuals reported personal items that were missing from the visiting locker room area, north of and adjacent to the sold-out stadium during the game that began at 5 p.m. According to a police report, missing items included cell phones and $50 in cash.
Bowers said Beary had no formal connection to ISU. He said Beary once attended Iowa. University of Iowa officials confirmed that Beary was a student between the fall of 2008 and spring of 2011.
“From what we could determine, he attended the game as a fan,” Bowers said.
