An interesting position battle is taking shape within the Iowa football program.

Quarterback? Nope.

It’s the punting job that became a little bit more intriguing Thursday when junior college transfer Dillon Kidd decided to join the Hawkeyes.

He’ll try to beat out Connor Kornbrath, who averaged 40.0 yards per kick last season.

Iowa finished 48th nationally in net punting, with an average of 37.5 yards.

Kidd began his college career as a walk-on at Florida State, before transferring to El Camino (Calif.) Community College.

He averaged 38.2 yards a punt last fall.

Kidd’s father, John, spent 16 years in the NFL as a punter.
