Bond Shymansky made a homecoming today when he was introduced as Iowa’s new volleyball coach.
Iowa announced Friday that Shymansky, an Iowa City native, was hired to replace Sharon Dingman as the Hawkeye coach.
Shymansky has deep ties to Iowa high school and college volleyball.
He graduated from Iowa in 1995. He was a freshman coach at Iowa City West, then head varsity coach at rival Iowa City High.
Shymansky went on to serve as an assistant at Iowa State; he was named interim coach briefly in 1999 following the resignation of head coach Kerry Miller.
He served as the head coach at Georgia Tech from 2002 to 2008, taking three teams to the NCAA tournament.
Shymansky was at Marquette from 2009 until last fall. He took three consecutive teams to the NCAA tournament.
