No. 25-ranked Iowa picked up the fifth seed in the Big Ten Conference women’s basketball tournament.
The Hawkeyes (23-7) will open play Thursday vs. No. 12 seed Illinois in a first-round game at about 1:30 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Iowa beat Illinois 81-56 Sunday. Theairra Taylor scored a team-best 17 points, her second straight game leading the Hawkeyes in scoring.
The winner of Thursday’s game will meet fourth seed Purdue in a quarterfinal Friday.
Penn State drew the top seed and Michigan State was second. Nebraska, which is coached by Ankeny native Connie Yori, is the third seed.
