The Iowa football team is coming back to West Des Moines for an open practice.
The popular event that Kirk Ferentz’s Hawkeyes swung last year is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at Valley Stadium.
That is the same day as Iowa State’s spring football game in Ames.
Iowa’s open practice at Valley will begin at 1 p.m., with the West and Southwest gates opening to the public at 11:30 a.m. The University of Iowa athletic department said in a release that it would reveal a ticketing plan for the event next week.
A year ago, the open practice was held on a Sunday and drew an estimated 8,000 fans to Valley Stadium.
In a statement, Ferentz said: “We felt a year ago that the event was successful and well-received by our players and coaches and our fans in central and western Iowa. The assistance and cooperation we received from everyone involved from the West Des Moines Community School District and Valley High School played a major role in the success of the event. We appreciate their willingness to work with our program again.”
The Hawkeyes open spring practice on March 26. Their spring game is April 26 at Kinnick Stadium. Their regular season opener is Aug. 30 at home against Northern Iowa.
