DAYTON, Ohio – Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery said that he hopes that his son, Patrick, will be released from University Hospitals and Clinics as soon as today.
“”If there’s still some issues with regard to pain and nausea and fluid buildup, he’ll probably stay another night,” McCaffery said after Wednesday’s 78-65 overtime loss to Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. “But I would think either (this) afternoon or Friday morning he’ll be heading home.”
Patrick had surgery Wednesday to remove a tumor from his thyroid. Tests will be done to determine of the tumor is benign or malignant. McCaffery hopes to have that answer in a few days.
“We’re hoping for Friday,” McCaffery said. “The schedule says Monday, so Monday for sure.”
