Iowabasketball coach Fran has suffered another near miss in his search for players.
Forward Tim Williams said Sunday that he will transfer to New Mexico to finish his college career. The 6-foot-8 Williams played his freshman and sophomore seasons atUniversity in Birmingham, Ala. He picked the , who are coached by former Hawkeye assistant Craig Neal, over Iowa and Dayton after recently visiting all three schools.
Williams averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season while shooting 60 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line. Williams was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2012-2013 and was named first-team all-conference by the coaches this past season.
Williams graduated fromHigh School, which is in suburban Chicago.
His decision is the latest setback forin recruiting. Junior college forward Willie Atwood picked Arizona State over Iowa and Florida State in April, and Nevada transfer Cole Huff picked Creighton over Iowa in early May.
