Former Iowa Hawkeye Darius Stokes will finish his college basketball career at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The 6-foot-7 Cedar Rapids native announced his decision on Twitter on Wednesday.
“Excited to say that I have committed to Fairleigh-Dickinson University to further my education and play the sport that I love.#blessed,’” Stokes said.
Iowa defeated Fairleigh-Dickinson 92-59 on Dec. 9 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Stokes played five minutes in the game and grabbed one rebound. The Kinights finished 10-21 last season, including 6-10 in the Northeast Conference.
Stokes, who is the son of former Iowa all-Big Ten center Greg Stokes, joined the Iowa team as a walk-on in 2010. He was a non-scholarship athlete for his first three seasons before being put on scholarship as a junior last season.
He saw limited playing time in 14 games last season and appeared in 38 games overall for the Hawkeyes in three seasons.
Stokes lettered twice in basketball at Linn-Mar High School. He sister, Kiah Stokes, was a key reserve for the 2014 NCAA Champion Connecticut women’s basketball team.
