A criminal complaint says sophomore guard Peter Jok was stopped at 11:45 p.m. Monday on his moped at W. Market and Madison streets in Iowa City for improper lights and failure to have a safety flag. Police confirmed that Jok, whose legal name is Kacoul Dut Jok, had his driver’s license revoked May 7 after an OWI test failure, the complaint said.

Jok, 20, a former all-state player at West Des Moines Valley, pleaded guilty to OWI in Johnson County Court on May 2 after an April 26 arrest.

Jok is now charged with driving while license denied or revoked, a serious misdemeanor.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery announced Tuesday afternoon that he is indefinitely suspending the former West Des Moines Valley star.

“In light of last night’s moped incident, I’ve decided to suspend Peter Jok indefinitely from all University of Iowa basketball related activities,” McCaffery said in a statement released by the school. “We support Peter, but we’re not happy with his recent pattern of behavior.”

Jok will still attend summer-school classes and participate in community service projects, McCaffery said in the release.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta expressed his disappointment earlier in the day in a separate university statement.

“Fran and I were made aware of the incident involving Peter Jok and a moped this morning,” Barta said. “… I’m very disappointed to learn about this, especially in light of the fact that Peter had a previous incident earlier this summer.”
