Big Ten Conference media members think the Dec. 6 Big Ten championship game will pit Ohio State vs. Wisconsin, a poll compiled by the Cleveland Plain-Dealer revealed Friday morning.
Media members selected Iowa second in the league’s West Division, ahead of Nebraska, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue.
Twelve of the 29 voters picked Ohio State to beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. But the next two scenarios involved Iowa: Five voters picked Michigan State over Iowa, and four picked Ohio State over Iowa.
None of the voters picked a West Division team to win the conference.
Iowa has never made the conference championship game since the league went to that format in 2011.
The poll is compiled annually by the Cleveland media company. As their website says, “This is the most official Big Ten vote you will find.”
That’s because, unlike most conferences, the Big Ten does not organize a preseason media vote. The Hawkeyes are coming off an 8-5 season and an Outback Bowl appearance.
