Former Hawkeye Sokol is starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech

Former Iowa quarterback Cody Sokol has been named the starter at Louisiana Tech.

Sokol, a transfer who was once part of a three-way quarterbacking competition that included Jake Rudock and C.J. Beathard, will make his debut Saturday against Oklahoma.

According to the Shreveport Times, Tech coach Skip Holtz made the announcement Monday during his weekly radio show.

Sokol, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior, joined the Hawkeyes after

Cody Sokol, a junior college transfer, went 15-of-20 for 185 yards at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, including passing for a touchdown and running for another.

Cody Sokol, a former Hawkeye born in Des Moines, will start for  Saturday for Louisiana Tech, against Oklahoma.

beginning his college career at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College, where he passed for 3,807 yards and 43 touchdowns as a sophomore.

Sokol, a Des Moines native, was listed as a co-starter coming out of spring practices in 2013, but Rudock eventually won the job. Beathard was No. 2.

At Tech, Sokol beat out sophomore Ryan Higgins to be the starter.
