Former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was cut by the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday.
Mark Long of the Associated Press reported the news on Twitter.

Stanzi was one of the most successful quarterbacks of the Kirk Ferentz era. He was 26-9 as a starting quarterback, ranking second among Iowa quarterbacks in career victories.
He also had this memorable TV interview after the Hawkeyes won the 2010 Orange Bowl.
To be clear, Stanzi wasn’t expected to make waves in the Jaguars’ quarterback derby. The team drafted Blake Bortles No. 3 overall in the spring, and Chad Henne was the incumbent starter.
In Jacksonville’s preseason finale Thursday night against Atlanta, Stanzi completed 8 of 15 passes for 89 yards.
Former Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer also was cut Friday, by the Atlanta Falcons. Angerer and Stanzi were teammates at Iowa.
